  Weather in BC

Herald Provincial Park is situated on the west shore of the Salmon Arm of Shuswap Lake. The campground within the park is very popular and fills up quickly during July and August. For these months, reservations should be made well in advance. If you can't make a reservation, put your name on the waiting list for the small number of first-come- first-served sites that are available each day at noon.

This 79-hectare park features 700 metres of sandy beach on the warm waters of Shuswap Lake, and swimming, fishing, and bird-watching are the order of the day here. For picnickers looking for a break from Hwy 1, it's worth the short drive to reach the park, situated on the grounds of an old homestead; there's a feeling about the place as if you've come to visit your grandparents.

Hikers will enjoy the two distinct topographical units, upland and flat delta, which have created a great terrain, there are also Native Canadian pithouse depressions, or kekuli, in the area west of the creek, as well as some old Native cache pits.

Shuswap Lake provides everything you need for summer fun: camping, picnicking, fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, windsurfing, sailing, water-skiing, nature study, photography and cycling. The lake is among the most popular houseboating and canoeing locations in the Southern Interior.

There are three separate campgrounds that make up Herald Provincial Park: Bastion Campground, Reinecker Campground and Homestead Campground. There are 119 vehicle/tent campsites at this park, as well as 68 day-use/picnicking sites.  In addition to basic facilities – picnic tables, pit toilets, firepits, firewood and water – flush toilets, showers, a sani-station and a boat launch are provided.  Some facilities are wheelchair accessible. The campground is open from May to September 30 and fees are collected during this period. No fee or services provided after September 30th; campers may stay in self-contained units and be user maintained in day use area only.

Herald Provincial Park is located 14km east of the Trans-Canada Highway at Tappen, on the northwest shore of the Salmon Arm of Shuswap Lake in the Shuswap region of British Columbia.
